Client

Data is only used to understand general user behavior and improve the product.
Individual users are not identifiable by us (no links to you or your account).
We do not read personal content such as deck names and card contents.

We measure user behavior and retention without ever linking it to you.
User behavior is what people do in the app.
This lets us know how and what is being used.
Retention is whether people continue to use the app after a while.
This lets us know how much value people get from the app.

Measuring retention minimally requires a random, persistent client ID.
It is never linked to you, your account, or any personally identifying actions or data.
It lets us know things like "Someone completed onboarding and made a card" or "80% of users continue to use the app after 1 month".

Non-personal information such as the number of cards in a deck is measured.
We do not read the personal content in your card decks or cards.

Properties

These are additional properties stored as part of analytics events.

IP-based coarse location data
IP address is used to geolocate the city, state/province, country, and then discarded.
This lets us know the countries where users are using the app.
iOS and app version
Device details (model, screen size)
Connection details (carrier, radio type, using wifi)
Timestamp

Third-Party Providers

Mixpanel is the analytics provider used to store and process client analytics.
Their data processing guidelines state that:

They process personal information only for the purpose of providing application services or when required by law.
They do not disclose or provide access to personal information to any third party unless directed by us (which we will not do) or for compliance and legal reasons.

Server

Data is only used to understand general user behavior and improve the product, and to stop fraud and abuse.

Connection details and query metadata need to be stored for these purposes.

Connection details include the following.

IP address
User agent (OS and version, device model)
Primary OS language

Query metadata does not contain personal query content.
It consists of details such as which endpoint was used, the response language, and the LLM model used.
E.g. "User ABC used 10 queries today".

Query contents are stored in an anonymous pile to let us understand how the app is being used, and are never linked to you.
E.g. "There were 50 queries for 'hello' using GPT-4o".

Your email address, if provided, will only be used to contact you for necessary account-related matters.
If you choose the option to allow product news and special offers, then such messages will also be sent.

Users can request to have their data deleted within 10 days by deleting their account in the app in account settings.

Data will be stored for as long as required to accomplish the stated purposes.

Ads support the free version of the app and free queries.
Ad data and privacy is separate from that of the application (client and server).
Ad data and privacy is managed under applicable laws such as GDPR and CPRA.
When applicable, you can manage your consent settings in "Settings / Privacy / Privacy Options".

Providers

Google AdMob

Google AdMob may collect the following types of data:

IP address, which may be used to estimate the general location of a device
Device ID, such as the device's advertising identifier or other app- or developer-bounded device identifiers, which may be used for the purpose of third-party advertising and analytics
Advertising data, such as advertisements the user has seen, may be used to power analytics and advertising features
User product interactions like app launch taps, and interaction information, like video views, may be used to improve advertising performance

Google may use personalized ads based on user interests.
You can manage your consent settings in "Settings / Privacy / Privacy Options".
